Additional Comments:

Potential conflicts with guidance’s college application day have been resolved.  Class assemblies for first term academic recognition will be held Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21:

November 20: period 1 – freshmen

period 2 – sophomores

November 21: period 5 – juniors

period 6 – seniors

The assemblies should not take more than 25 minutes, and students will return to class.

The guidance college application process will be ongoing throughout Monday morning and after the assemblies on Tuesday.

Teachers are requested to email students of the term recommendations with a brief narrative to Marcia by Thursday, November 16.  Each core area should have one student per grade.  Teachers in elective areas may select a student or students from multi-grade levels.  Submission of names prior to next Thursday eliminates the duplicate recognition for the same student.

CIAS Meeting – reminder that the next CIAS meeting will be used by the NEASC sub committees for a working session.

Cell phones/electronic devices may serve as an outstanding instructional tool and learning resource if used appropriately. We encourage our staff members and our students to use electronics and other 21st century devices to supplement instruction and learning.  Always remember, the use of cell phones/electronic devices in school is a privilege, not a right.  In order to preserve the teaching and learning environment, this document is to clarify the cell phone/electronic devices policy for Murdock High School.

The policy is:

  • Cell phones/electronic devices may only be used for educational purposes in the classroom setting at the teacher’s discretion.
  • If a student wishes to use their device for non-educational purposes, they may only do so before the morning bell rings, during lunch, and after school….Monday through Friday.
  • Cell phones/electronic devices must be turned OFF and put away, along with headphones, before you enter any classroom, office, library, hallway, locker room, lab, or auditorium.
  • Once inside the classroom, office, library, hallway, locker room, lab, or auditorium, students must store their cell phones/electronic devices and headphones in a location that is not visible to the teacher or other students, even though they are OFF. Students may only turn on and use the device with teacher approval.
  • If a cell phone/electronic device rings or vibrates, is used for any reason without teacher permission, is visible anytime during class, is used without permission on campus during class time, a staff member may confiscate the device.
  • Refusal to surrender your phone when asked is considered defiance. Defiance may result in disciplinary consequences, including suspension. Parents will be contacted.
  • Parents/guardians are asked not to call or text their students' cell phones during school hours. Emergency messages for students should be called into the main office (978-297-1256) during the school day.
  • Students assume all risk of loss, damage, or theft of their electronic device(s).
  • All manners in which any electronic device is used must fully comply with the Winchendon Public Schools' Acceptable Use Policy.
  • iPads, cell phones and other devices may never be used in the restrooms or locker rooms.
